A Sweeter Holiday Cheer
Our Christmas joy is simpler than most households. Gifts are immediately purchased from online businesses that take forever to deliver, and now a third of my gift list is done. The rest of the list will finish in another week. Maybe, I’ll bring homemade goodies to my job and as gifts to others. We won’t buy a gigantic holiday tree. A trip to the florist for a few pine branches to place in a vase and decorate with ornaments is festive enough and easier to clean in January.

Wonderful Super Herbal Tea

Each time I receive a tea collection from The Republic of Tea, I’ve noticed how it’s an undercurrent reflection of my life. When the first shipment of arrived, I’ve just used the last green tea bag only to come home to a box of Green, Ginger Peach, and Orange Blossom teas outside my apartment door. The second shipment, Matcha Green Tea, arrived during March when fresh green blades of grass and tulips were fighting their way through the snow, and the weather was still brisk. When I brought a gym membership to return to working out, the next shipment included their Be Active tea collection. Spice Up Your African Diaspora Culinary Knowledge
February is a joyous month honoring leadership, celebrating love and praising our culture. Starting the month of festivities is African Heritage & Health week. A week long celebration encouraging African-Americans to return to their roots and rediscover cooking techniques and ingredients their ancestors ate before the age of processed food.
In 2011, Oldways, an organization dedicated to teaching nutrition and good food via culture and heritage, introduced the African Heritage Diet Pyramid. It was created by experts in African American history, cuisine, nutrition, and public health. The ingredients listed are commonly found in recipes from North America, Africa, the Caribbean and South America. Dishes made with African Diaspora ingredients are generally healthier than some soul food dishes ‘invented’ or ‘revised’ within the last 60 years. Read more
