It’s a guilty pleasure to relax on a weekday morning on one of the year’s first warm days. The day started off with a run in the sun. After wards, a quick brunch was served before attending to daily tasks and jobs. It’s a weekday after all, a lazy one, too.

A Farmer’s Market Find: Cosnes

Getting up early last Saturday was the opportunity to go to the farmer’s market in the city. It was a nice winter warm day of walking pass stalls and creating a menu in my head for next week. Before it became too crowded, I was exiting the market with a heavy bag of Savoy cabbage, spicy turkey sausage, a smoked turkey wing to be placed in the freezer for Southern-style collard greens, gold rush apples, freshly baked pretzels as a low-fat snack, apple cider, and crosnes. Promptly exiting the office at 5 p.m., I had to make a choice between two important tasks causing scheduling conflicts: going grocery shopping or working out. Produce and meat in Denmark are expensive, small and imperfect. The taste far exceeds American food. I returned to the United States with a determined effort to shop at farmer’s market than the average grocery store, when time permits. The fingerling potatoes in Denmark had a thin paper shell, similar to an onion or a tomatillo, that needs to be rubbed or peeled off before prepping for a dish. The small size, like most produce and meat, produces a sweet and tender taste.
