Tumblr.com is my new social media addiction. It’s not quite as addictive as Twitter or Facebook, but its slowly gaining popularity. Similar to my early experiences of using Twitter, it was quite boring. Now, I’m beginning to follow relevant people or organizations, such as Newsweek, NPR, MNBC.com and so forth. There are a few food blogs of interest. Last November, someone, who I wish to remember his or her name, recommended a book, The Gastronomy of Marriage by Michelle Maisto, who is a food blogger at The Market Report.com. The title sounds like an Italian Renaissance painting. The beauty is in the writing. To some, whose attention span is on par with today’s pop culture of instant trends coming and going in millisecond timeframes, Ms. Maisto is a relaxing read. Read more

In the past few months, there were three “Celebration of Life” ceremonies balanced by two baby showers, and most plans or ideas didn’t come into fruition. From December to the present, my personal life is emotionally chaotic. However, my faith remains strong for recognizing such erratic energy is temporary. Along with life’s mandatory priorities, the time spent working on My Life Runs On Food is a simple pleasure.

One of my personal goals this year is to learn the process of making bread from scratch. There’s a picture in Dad’s kitchen with his first loaves of homemade bread. I remember that day as a child, because the picture was taken by me. We all know the difference in taste of homemade versus commercial store bread. That’s a known fact. In New York, like other major cities, there are plenty of beautiful artisan bakeries of intense passion. It does seem contrite and unnecessary to spend a whole day baking bread. Read more

Blood Orange Smoothie

Ingredients: The juice of 3 to 4 Blood Oranges; 2 tbsp. unsweetened Greek yogurt; 2 tsp. honey (adjust according to the sweetness of the fruit); the juice of 1/2 a lime; 1/2 cup milk (any unsweetened nut, rice, or cow’s milk); 1/4 tsp. vanilla; 1/2-inch peeled fresh ginger, roughly chopped; and 1 slice banana

The boyfriend, who is a tester for many experimental recipes, likes spicy food, too. My tolerance for spicy food could be a bit more than his.
